Buying a New Computer on Black Friday? Don’t Fall into the Storage Trap

Have you been holding out to purchase a new laptop or desktop on Black Friday or Cyber Monday? If the answer is “yes”, don’t fall into the trap that has been set for you.

There is a growing trend to make laptops and desktops more affordable. One way this is done is to offer devices with 128, 256 or 512 gigabytes hard drives. The price is obviously less with the smaller hard drive – and that is the trap.

128 Gigabytes Isn’t Enough

I have had several clients lately with storage issues. 128 gigabytes of storage is not enough.  Sure, if all you are doing is checking e-mail and creating the occasional Word document you will be fine. But, let’s face it, you have pictures, music, movies and other files you need stored on your computer. 

What Happens When You Run Out of Space?

Consider what will happen once you six-month-old machine you paid $399.99 for on Black Friday runs out of storage.

1. First, you will spend 2-3 hours trying to delete files to create more space.
2. Next, you will realize you don’t want to delete any of the items and end up at your local big-box store to buy a portable drive that will cost you $75-$125.
3. Lastly, you will spend another couple of hours moving and organizing data on your computer.

Avoid the Trap

To avoid this trap, spend the extra $100 or so and go with the 512 gigabyte option and save yourself a ton of aggravation down the road.
